K & C Berryman recently purchased a new Croplands 12 metre Linkage WEEDit optical spot sprayer for their spray contracting operations.

K & C Berryman is a spray contracting business based in the Gunnedah area and servicing farming properties all over north-west New South Wales. They recently purchased a new Croplands 12 metre Linkage WEEDit optical spot sprayer through local Croplands dealer, NFS-AG in Gunnedah.

With a large portion of their customers requiring fallow spraying, particularly in summer, K & C Berryman business owner, Ken Berryman decided the Croplands WEEDit would be the best way for the contracting business to maximise its potential over the coming years.

“We want to expand on our seasonal contracting, which only lasts 2 to 3 months of the year to get more year-round work” Ken explains.

“We’re now able to utilise a tractor that would normally sit unused for most of the year.”

The 12 metre linkage WEEDit optical spot sprayer was optioned up with end tow kit and 1100 litre tank to maximize efficiencies in moving the unit around and decreasing the amount of filling required.

Ken plans to use an equivalent application rate of 70 to 100 litres per hectare at travel speeds between 14 to 20 km per hour, depending on the size and stress of the weeds in the paddock.

Croplands recommends travel speeds of no more than 20km per hour to achieve best kill rates, particularly in grassy weeds where the weed’s surface area may be minimal and the plant can be easily stressed. The beauty of Croplands WEEDit is the ability to economically use a higher concentration of chemical, a different mode of action or both, which is a major factor in eliminating hard to kill weeds and therefore delaying the onset of herbicide resistance.

“Cutting chemical costs for growers is a key benefit of us purchasing a Croplands WEEDit” Ken explains.

“We’re now able to target weeds with higher rates.”

Having only just taken ownership of the new 12 metre WEEDit Linkage, Ken has managed to do one contract spraying job and by all accounts it has performed well.

“So far we’re very happy with it and looking forward to a busy summer of optical spot spraying” reports Ken.
